What is CoderDojo?

CoderDojo is an open source, volunteer led movement oriented around running free coding clubs (Dojos) for young people between 5 - 17 years old. It is part of the Raspberry Pi Foundation, UK based charity No. 1129409. At a Dojo, young people learn how to code, develop websites, apps, programs, games and much more. Dojos are set up, run and led by volunteers. Dojos make development and learning to code a fun, sociable an awesome experience!

What is Coding?

Code is the language of computers, including those in phones, cars, and even in lightbulbs! Learning to code is learning to talk to computers in their native language.

Why to learn Coding ?

Coding and digital creation are invaluable skills these days, and computers are an ever more important part of life. Understanding how computers work and the best ways to interact with them will open up lots of opportunities for you!

Aside from how cool it is to build your own games, apps, and websites? You’ll be able to take your creative ideas, make them a reality, and then share them with all your friends!

What age group CoderDojo caters to?

7 to 17 years old.

What is my child going to learn?

CoderDojo is not curriculum based, so we shall plan as per the learner's interest and make it Learner Centered. Though for beginners, we prefer young learners to start with Scratch, a visual programming tool, or by building their own website.

Are there levels defined?

Yes, CoderDojo has learning paths defined.

What is a learning path?

The learning path is a very simple tool that suggests projects that are taken up at a Dojo.These paths are separated into three skill levels — Foundation, Intermediate, and Advanced — for learners to approach at their own pace.

How will we attend CoderDojo?

CoderDojo shall use online and remote activities mode to help you learn and master the skills defined for a month.

Is there any fees associated?

No, CoderDojos are run for free.

Do we get to showcase our work?

Yes!!!

How is Abhyast related to CoderDojo?

Abhyast is a CoderDojo champion. Dojos are championed by individuals all around the world who are passionate about giving young people the opportunity to learn to code. CoderDojo champions are enthusiastic, driven (and often not techie!) volunteers who take charge of setting up and maintaining a Dojo.

Can parents help?

Yes, you can absolutely help! If you have technical skills you can mentor at the
Dojo. If not, you can help out with registrations, check-in, and promoting the Dojo both online and offline.
